Piangete voi... Ah, dolce guidami So this was from a masterclass with Opera Theatre of Saint Louis in Spring of 2021, and it’s always so wild to me how much the voice evolves over time. I watch this and see so much improvement in my voice now, but also some good habits I’ve let slide! The voice is ever changing and fluctuating and all I can do is continue to work and stay aware so I can present...

Opera Singer Reacts to Shoshana Bean: She Used to Be Mine

Could not have enjoyed this performance more. I went back and listened a few more times and did hear some hoarseness on "finally" when shes belting? She physically pulls back from mic and there's just a twinge of hoarse throat. Sounds to me like dehydration/oversinging (life of a broadway star lol), but not necessarily hoarseness caused by repetitive vocal dysfunction. aNywAY- I loved it. Thank...
QuaranLieder #6: You're Tacky, and I Hate You
Просмотров 2 тыс.3 года назад
Another QuaranLieder- we're getting close to the end of this series! This one is especially for my Berlin Darling, Sophia (on twitter as @ the_shebang). This song is petty perfection. And it's another from Dichterliebe! Because we all love an angsty breakup cycle where you're like "I'm over it but also I'm not over it and here are 26 songs about MY FEELINGS but actually I'm totally cool and hav...

For everyone who says Schumann's Dichterliebe is for dudes: The work was dedicated to Wilhelmine Schröder-Devrient, a soprano. So, you know, shut up forever. QuaranLieder #4: Composers being Shady
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.3 года назад
Welcome to Part 4 of QuaranLieder! Today's video is actually NOT German lieder (I know, I know) but is one of Charles Ives' 114 songs! The commission is from award winning composer Chris Opperman, on twitter as @ chris_opperman, who also played the piano part. I had to do a little research for this one, as the published work has BLANKS in the lyrics! At the end it says "Shades of , , and " so I...
QuaranLieder #3: Wild Roses and Unwelcome Attention
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.3 года назад
QuaranLieder #3 is a request from @ opustechnica on Twitter- they asked for "something spiky" and my brain immediately went to one of Schubert's most famous Lieder, "Heidenröslein". I know a lot of people think this is just a simple song, but Goethe had such a beautiful way with words- "morgenschön" is such a one, for example. The story is a familiar one, and if you come at it in the viewpoint ...
Opera Singer Reacts to Harry Styles- Sign of the Times

Slowly but surely adjusting to the new video editor. Y'all- Harry Styles is just a whole vibe. This is definitely going on my "please calm down anxiety, here is a glass of wine at midnight on a Tuesday" playlist. Girl I’m scared too! She’s definitely an undertaking (where you might end up needing an undertaker)! I’ve been working it with Stephanie Blythe, Christine Goerke, and Christine Brewer and the main focus has been a nubile, legato sound and text based focus. That said I had a 102.4 degree fever when I sang this- felt terrible, went to my artist residence after the run, and took my temp. I definitely hear things I want to change in this performance, beyond my copout excuse of norovirus... mostly tempo changes to help stay flexible instead of weighting down, more text and unvoiced consonants, and less of those Puccini sobs that I used here to sing over that awful feeling of “oh god I’m going to be sick”

I enjoyed your singing. Your timbre is complex in that there is soprano brightness ond mezzo overtones overlaying that,"light,". For me, that allows such full expression of character and the situation they might be reacting to. You sound perfect for an Elsa ( Lohengrin ), Santuzza, Suor Angelica, and other characters dealing with situations of some gravity. The ," light," and darkness that coexists in your timbre allows you to assay these roles- according to my ear.

Wow! Thank you for sharing this. I'm unfortunately not an Opera singer myself and don;t have that kind of talent, however, I do admire you and everyone else who does. I personally gravitate more towards listening to the Big Band Swing type of Jazz and Rock N Roll music as I do Ballroom dancing as my favourite fun, sporting and social activity, as I have mentioned in a comment in another video, and as I was born blind I do this through an awesome organisation calledChaeli Campaign and their sports and recreation club and I'm part of their dancing group which is a bit of a mix of the blind and visually impaired as well as dancers in wheelchairs. If you get the opportunity to visit South Africa one day that will be so awesome because then you can possibly come and visit our group and we can all share our dancing talents with you and have fun together. Sending you lots of love and big warm loving hugs and kisses all the way from Cape Town, South Africa.

The 'SUL FIATO'-'ON the BREATHE' IS a key development of the old Italian Technique, very missed of very gifted singers shortening their careers. Pavarotti, Caballe, Sutherland, Horne, Aragull, Carreras, Domingo were among the masters revealing valuable point -- that the breath into mouth & then standing positioning relaxed; that as Maestro Pavarotti said, 'the male diaphragm is supported the back to breath out as if FU<|<ing, & Caballe said "that the female supports diaphragm to breath out 'as pushing out a bowel movement.' To accomplish 'SUL FIATO.' The 'on the breath' has the positioning of no neck strain, no horse grinning, no chords closing. The time given is according to one's already ability born with or to give the voice lesson that study. 'On the breath' projects the floating notes Caballe & Sutherland were very accomplished. Pavarotti born natural and taught this covering into the top, too. 'With the breath' stains a neck, closes the chords, shortens the the notes floating. Check them in teaching...this is what brings that bel canto-beautiful line success. Conductors know their music BUT THESE ARE & WERE the singers who knew the 'SUL FIATO.' Domingo & Mehta & Levine were always taken by Caballe. Pavarotti did not know how to read music, born with a bel canto, as Sutherland & he adored her, and then Horne. Domingo retires from singing this year at 84 but will continue his Maestro baton. Domingo, Carreras, and Pavarotti all agreed that Aragull was the best tenor to them. Aragull had a non-commercial interest & migraine interference, but a wonderful tenor. Caballe's husband Bernabe Marti was a tenor, too. Lovely to see you, Angel Azzurra! Best to you!! You have a beautiful voice!! Thank you.

Fine reaction and professional analysis - thank you! This song is from the competition "I´m Singer" in China 1917 - Dimash was then 22. The competition had 14 rounds, he opened it with this song. He was the only foreigner and the first one ever being so young. He won 3 rounds - the first, the second and the sixth - and finally he was no. 2 by 0,08 points (I read somewhere) behind the winner, a 50 year old fabulous professional singer Lin Yilian. Dimash's most famous whistle tone is from his song "Unforgettable Day" at the Gakku Concert later that year 2017. Love from Denmark
